Playoff Picture Set in Wild Week 17
The Packers outlasted the Bears in a back and forth battle in Chicago 33-28 to take home the NFC North crown. The Chargers grabbed the last spot in the AFC beating the Kansas City backups in OT after some help with some other contenders dropping their games.
And finally on Sunday Night Football the Eagles take the NFC East after beating the Cowboys 24-22. Kyle Orton played well but proved it doesn't matter who is playing QB for the Cowboys with the game on the line they will turn the ball over.

Johnny Manziel was in attendance last night at the Atlanta Hawks game. For some reason they had him attempt a layup and what happened next is internet gold. Let's just say there is a reason he's called "Johnny Football" and not "Johnny Basketball."

The final game in Candlestick brought out all kinds. 81 fans were ejected, 30 were arrested and at least 1 injury was reported. Way to go San Francisco fans!

Kobe Bryant Injured Again
Kobe Bryant is out at least 6 weeks with a fractured knee. He's only played in 6 games this year and the Lakers have been struggling. It doesn't look good for the Lakers and their aging superstar. It reminds me a lot of what Derek Jeter went through last year.

Steeler Fined for Hit on the Punter
Terence Garvin a Pittsburgh Steelers rookie has been fined $25,000 for the huge hit on Bengal punter Kevin Huber. Huber suffered a broken jaw and vertebrae in his neck on the hit and the league came down pretty heavily on the rookie. Garvin is pulling in the rookie league minimum which works out to be $24,000 a week.

Tom Brady Had a Rough Game on Sunday
Tom Brady had a rough day on Sunday losing to the Miami Dolphins 24-20. Brady threw an interception in the end zone on what turned out to be the last play for the Patriots. He wasn't happy about the loss and didn't hide his feelings after the game. He only answered two questions and walked out.

The Bengals had a rough night against the Steelers but no one had it rougher than punter Kevin Huber. Huber had a punt blocked and had his jaw broken on a punt that was returned for a touchdown.

Jason Garrett threw Tony Romo under the bus following the Cowboys loss to Green Bay on Sunday. The Cowboys blew a 23 point halftime lead. Romo did throw two costly interceptions in the last three minutes of the game but he shouldn't have even been in that situation.
They lead the game 26-3 at halftime. Why isn't the finger being pointed at the lousy Dallas defense? Why does Romo take the blame? It's a 23 point lead! Is Romo now responsible for playing defense? Must he go make tackles now?

Jay Cutler returns and after a shaky start turned it up to lead the Bears to a critical win over the Browns. After the game his favorite target Brandon Marshall couldn't control himself and gave Cutler a big smooch on the cheek.

Nick Saban Signs Extension
Nick Saban signs a multi-year extension with Alabama. Worth $7-7.5 million per year, this likely means he's not going after the Texas job. With Texas and Mack Brown continuing to go through their own saga, Saban looks to have bowed out of the equation.
Texas may have been hoping Saban was going to leave Alabama and that's why they started the talks with Mack Brown about his future. So does Texas keep him now?

Georges St. Pierre stopped short of retiring but did state today that he will be stepping away from the UFC and vacates his title. He claims to need the break for his own "mental stability." The vacancy leaves the title free and sets up a fight to crown a new champ.

The formal introduction of Jacoby Ellsbury as the Yankees new center fielder occurred today. While I was able to watch without vomiting, in part because of Mrs. Ellsbury a small part of me did in fact die. As a fan of the Yankees Ellsbury's signing is a hard pill to swallow.

Chargers Hand Broncos First Home Loss of the Season
The Chargers with their playoff hopes on the line, marched into Denver and handed the Broncos their first home loss of the season winning 27-20. No the cold weather wasn't o blame, sure it was cold. Twerking for money in the stands at a professional sporting event is nothing new. At a college game, well now that's a different twist isn't it. Mariners Announce Cano, Yankees Fans Unhappy and Cano Claims it Wasn't About the Money
The Mariners announced their new second basemen Robinson Cano and shared a picture of the new bearded Mariner.
It turns out Cano felt disrespected by the Yankees. Yeah he was disrespected with a 7 year $175 million dollar contract offer. An offer that would have grossly overpaid him and is actually annually larger than the one he signed. But it lacked his 10 year request so that apparently equals disrespect.

Brian Urlacher Says McCown Should Start
Former Bears' linebacker Brian Urlacher is causing a little buzz after saying Josh McCown should start over a healthy Jay Cutler. The Bears have already stated that Jay Cutler will start when healthy even though McCown has played well.
I agree with Urlacher you can't sit McCown with how hot he's been playing. Cutler is injury prone, inconsistent and a little overrated. He's a good quarterback but I think is future with the Bears might be in doubt depending on how well he plays when he returns and ow the Bears finish the season.

Wes Welker suffered a second concussion in the last four weeks on Sunday and has been ruled out of Thursday's match up against the Chargers.

Welker's second concussion occurred on what seemed to be a routine play. Yes his head was hit but not nearly as violently as we've seen other shots that result in concussions. Given that it could be an issue with Welker going forward and he could miss another week as a precaution.

Andrew McCutchen Proposed on Ellen
Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen was on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the National League MVP proposed to his girlfriend Maria Hansloven. The Pirates star got down on one knee and pulled out a ring in the middle of the show, while explaining:

RGIII Benched For Kirk Cousins
Mike Shanahan benches RGIII for the rest of the season. Is it a move by Shanahan to get fired? Is it to protect RGIII? Or some sort of guilt because he played RGIII too long last year or too early this season?

The Real Reason Cano Left The Yankees
The real reason Robinson Cano left the Yankees was he didn't want to play for Joe Girardi. Well according to the New York Post anyway. They claim to have received the information from three of Cano's unnamed friends.
According to three people who know Cano, he didn’t enjoy playing for manager Joe Girardi and that may have factored into the decision, though the Mariners giving him $60 million more than the Yankees offered ($175 million) likely had more to do with him leaving.
“Robbie didn’t like batting second, he wanted to bat in the middle of the order,’’ one person said. “The Yankees wanted him second because that was best for the team. He wanted to hit in the middle of the order to drive in runs [to increase his value].’’One of the friends goes on to say specifically he didn't want to play for the current Yankees manager.
“He told me he didn’t want to play for [Girardi],’’ a friend of Cano’s said.I'm sure Cano is happy with his decision to leave, for now anyway. Let's circle back with him after a couple of losing seasons. To think that just because the Mariners signed Cano and even a couple more players this off season and suddenly they will be contenders is absurd. They have many holes to fill.

Roy Halladay Signs With The Blue Jays
Roy Halladay signed with the Blue Jays. But it's not what you think! The two time Cy Young Award winner signed a one day contract to retire as a Blue Jay.
The right hander spent the first twelve of his sixteen years in the major leagues as a member of the Blue Jays and the last four with the Phillies. Halladay calls it quits after two difficult, injury plagued seasons. The 36 year old is a 200 game winner and leaves the game almost 100 games over .500 with a record of 203-105 with an ERA of 3.38 in 416 career games.

TJ Ward Defends Hit on Gronk and the Week of the Leg Injury
TJ Ward defends his hit on Rob Gronkowski that tore the tight end's ACL and MCL and says he "prays for him."
Ward put the hit heard round the NFL when he injured the Patriots playoff hope with a hit below the knees. While the Patriots were 5-1 and did come back this Sunday without their big tight end, they've really started to click with him in there.
Gronk's might have been the one heard round the NFL but this week was the week of the knee and foot injury with several players going down.

Only 8 months after tearing his Achilles, Kobe Bryant was back on the floor for the Lakers on Sunday. The Lakers star played well but struggled shooting the ball only scoring 9 points and grabbing 8 boards. But his return wasn't enough and the Lakers lost the game to Toronto 106-94.

Mike Shanahan Might Be The Next Coach Fired
Mike Shanahan addressed the rumors that have been swirling that he wanted out last year because of Dan Snyder and his relationship with RGIII. Shanahan didn't deny the rumors and refused to discuss it. The Redskins laid a giant turd getting blown out by the Chiefs and speculation is that he could be fired very soon.

Matt Prater Sets NFL Record
Matt Prater set the NFL record for longest field goal with a 64 yarder against the Titans. The cold weather didn't bother him! It's fitting he would set the record on a day in the NFL that saw a couple other records set. Most TD's in a day of NFL action (yeah the really keep track of that) and the fastest QB to 50,000 yards. Rob Gronkowski Carted Off the Field After a Big Hit
Rob Gronkowski's season could be over just weeks after it began. The often injured Patriot tight end suffered a vicious hit by Cleveland's TJ Ward. If it's as bad as it looks then he's probably done for the season.
Gronk joins fellow star Adrian Peterson who also suffered a lower body injury and had to be carted off, on this very snowy day in the NFL.

In one of several games in the snow today Adrian Peterson got hurt. He left the game via the cart in the second quarter after suffering an ankle injury. According to FOX Peterson is the Franchise leader for such injuries.

Ohio State Loses Big Ten Championship Game
Ohio State lost to Michigan State 32-24 in the Big 10 championship game. Losing their perfect record and probably a shot at a title.
With Florida State and Auburn taking care of their respective championship games and the loss by Ohio State in the Big 10 championship game, it looks as if the title game will come down to Florida State and Auburn.
It makes the most sense and Auburn fans clearly think so. They celebrated the Ohio State loss into the night.

Carlos Beltran Signs with the Yankees
On the a day when both Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson left town the Yankees signed Carlos Beltran. After signing Jacoby Ellsbury the Yankees are now loaded with outfielders.
You gotta think either Beltran will be DHing the majority of time or Brett Gardner is on the way out. Given Beltran's age he'll likely be DH. Beltran signed for 3 years and $45 million dollars.

Mike Napoli Staying Put
Mike Napoli and his beard announced via his twitter account that he's staying in Boston. It is being reported that the first basemen will ink a two year $32 million dollar contract to stay put in Boston.
It is also widely believed he had better offers on the table and chose to remain with the Red Sox. Napoli of course was a key part of the Red Sox World Series run this past season and obviously want to try it again.

The signing is actually refreshing considering what has happened this week with Ellsbury, Saltalamacchia and Cano ditching clubs they spent several years with in favor of money.
