Bartolo Colon Behind The Back Flip For The Out

Despite his shape and his silly attempts swinging the bat, Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon is one hell of an athlete.  Who does sometimes use some substances from time to time.

But there isn't a PED on this planet that can help with a behind the back flip to first for an out.  Colon did just that this weekend in Miami.

He fielded a slow roller up the first base line and casually flipped the ball behind his back to the first baseman.  The flip was right on the money.

When things are going good they're really going good.

Bartolo Colon's At Bats Are Fun To Watch

Bartolo Colon, who turns 42 at the end of the month, is very entertaining in the batter's box.  With a 5-1 record on the young year I'm sure the Mets don't care what he looks like swinging the bat.

They need to worry about him failing another PED piss test though.  But he's not A Rod so nobody gives a shit that he failed a test and was suspended a couple of years ago do they?

Anyway on to last night when Colon managed to hit his helmet with the bat instead of the ball.

Bartolo Colon Ran Down A Base Runner

Who said Bartolo Colon wasn't a good athlete?  Sure he's fat but dude can still move.  Watch him pick off A.J. Pierzynski.

Sure Pierzynski isn't the fastest runner in the world.  But it's hard to think that Colon would be able to catch him if they were to race.

Colon showed off his big man athletic ability.

The Mets Fired a Female VP For Getting Pregnant When She Wasn't Married

Leigh Castergine alleges in a lawsuit against the Mets and co-owner Jeff Wilpon that she was fired because Wilpon didn't agree with her unwed pregnancy.  No this isn't a story from the '70s.  Via NY Post:
“He frequently humiliated Castergine in front of others by, among other things, pretending to see if she had an engagement ring on her finger and openly stating in a meeting of the Team’s all-male senior executives that he is ‘morally opposed’ to Castergine ‘having this baby without being married,'” the suit states.
This is another mark against the Mets management group that has mismanaged the product on the field too.  Who in this day and age is upset that an unwed woman gets pregnant?  Who gives Bartolo Colon more than a one year deal?

Bartolo Colon's Belly Shake

Bartolo Colon finished his work leaving in the 7th inning after giving up no runs.  That's cause for celebration isn't it?  And that's just what Colon does with his belly shake.

Bartolo Colon is Going to Have Some Fun at the Plate this Year

Bartolo Colon is in the national league which means he gets to take some swings.  At 5 foot 11 and pushing 300 pounds the aging pitcher isn't going to get cheating when he swings.  Last night in his first at bat he proved that by shattering his bat.

Another Overpaid Free Agent in the Year of the Overpaid Free Agent

Rangers sign Shin-Soo Choo for 7 years and $130 million dollars.  In an off season of outrageous free agent deals this fits right in.  Considering what Jacoby Ellsbury, Phil Hughes, Bartolo Colon, Curtis Granderson and of course Robinson Cano just to name a few.

Mariners Announce Cano, Yankees Fans Unhappy and Cano Claims it Wasn't About the Money

The Mariners announced their new second basemen Robinson Cano and shared a picture of the new bearded Mariner.
Notice the lack of a smile on his face, get used to that Robinson.  Also of note is the number change, no way would Seattle let him wear Ken Griffey Jr.'s 24.
On the day of the official announcement Cano took to twitter to thank the Yankees fans who supported him, but not all are happy with him after his decision to leave.  One tweeted:
@RobinsonCano no one likes you ! You aren’t welcome in this city go kill yourself — Anthony Scotti (@anthony_scotti) December 12, 2013
As you can clearly see, no love lost.  There is also a glaring omission from Cano's tweet.  He thanks NY and the fans but not the Yankees.  I soon found out why when I caught the snippet of his interview with Pedro Gomez that I posted below.

It turns out Cano felt disrespected by the Yankees.  Yeah he was disrespected with a 7 year $175 million dollar contract offer.  An offer that would have grossly overpaid him and is actually annually larger than the one he signed.  But it lacked his 10 year request so that apparently equals disrespect.

video

It may be true that it is 3 years longer but it is also true that the contract is $65 million dollars larger.  He can tell himself whatever he'd like, the fact remains he is greedy and he signed for more money.  He claims you can't get a deal at 37 or 38 and Bartolo Colon just signed a two year $20 million dollar deal at 41.  If you produce you can get a contract!
