Anderson Silva KO'd Michael Bisping And Still Lost

Last night's UFC Fight Night 84 was not without controversy.  At the end of the third round between Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping, Silva dropped Bisping with a huge flying knee.  It definitely looked like the fight had ended and Bisping was out.

Silva turned around and put his hands up thinking the fight had ended.

Anderson Silva Has Been Suspended For A Year

Anderson Silva tested positive for steroids following his UFC 183 victory over Nick Diaz back in January.  Silva, who is considered one of the best MMA fighters of all time, has been suspended and fined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

In addition to the suspension and fine Silva was stripped of the win, which is now a no contest.

FOX Sports is reporting that Silva had argued he took a tainted sexual enhancement drug that a friend had given him.
During the hearing, Silva testified and claimed that the tainted supplement was a sexual-enhancement liquid given to him by a friend who purchased the drug in Thailand. Silva stated that the off-market drug similar to Viagra or Cialis was not available for purchase in the United States or Brazil. According to Silva, he knew Marcos Fernandes for approximately one year through training together in Brazil and during a conversation talking about "man stuff," Silva says he received the supplement.
That's a pretty unbelievable story by Silva.  Who gets their medicine from a friend?  He could have easily found legal substances to take for his apparent sexual performance issues.

The suspension is retroactive to the date of his last fight, meaning he will be eligible to fight January 31, 2016.

Silva's fall from the top has been hard to watch.  You just hope he either retires or is able, without drugs, to get a few more wins before he walks away.

Anderson Silva Denies Taking Steroids

Anderson Silva released a statement denying using steroids or any banned substance and plans to fight to clear his name.

We've seen this song and dance before in other sports and almost every time the athlete eventually admits guilt.  So we'll play along Anderson.

9 times out of 10 you fail a drug test because you took the drug.  Here is what Silva told MMA Weekly:
“I’ve been competing in this sport for a very long time. This is my nineteenth fight in the UFC. I have been thoroughly tested many times and have never had a positive drug test,” said Silva.

“I have not taken any performance enhancing drugs. My stance on drugs is, and will always be, the same. I’m an advocate for a clean sport,” he continued.

“I’m consulting with my advisors right now to explore all of my options and intend to fight this allegation and clear my name. I will not make any further comments until my team advises me to do so.”

Anderson Silva And Nick Diaz Failed Drug Tests

Both of the UFC 183 headliner fighters, Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz, failed drug tests.  Silva failed a January 9th test, testing positive for steroids.  Diaz failed a post fight test, testing positive for marijuana.

Silva's steroid test is very surprising and really puts a black cloud over his return to the octagon.  The UFC released statements on both fighters.

Silva:

“On February 3, 2015, the UFC organization was notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Anderson Silva tested positive for Drostanolone metabolites on his Jan. 9 out of competition drug test. UFC’s understanding is that further testing will be conducted by the Commission to confirm these preliminary results.

“Anderson Silva has been an amazing champion and a true ambassador of the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC, in Brazil as well as around the world. UFC is disappointed to learn of these initial results.

"The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by its athletes."
Diaz:
"The UFC has been notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Nick Diaz has tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas, Nev. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. As a result of his positive test, Diaz has been informed that he has violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC organization will fully respect the Commission’s final decision relating to Diaz at a disciplinary hearing set for February 17."

Anderson Silva Defeated Nick Diaz In His Return To The Octagon

Anderson Silva won a decision over Nick Diaz in his return to the octagon.  Silva was overcome by emotion following the victory and seemed to be a very humble winner.

Both fighters spoke with Joe Rogan after the fight and their futures are up in the world.

Nick Diaz Talks About His Upcoming Fight With Anderson Silva

One thing missing from this fight, which is Saturday night at UFC 183, has been Nick Diaz' trash talk.  He's either matured or respects Anderson Silva more than any other fighter he's faced up to this point.  It sounds like a little of both.

Silva of course is coming back from his freak leg injury to fight for the first time since it happened.  Diaz is definitely a good first step back into the octagon and is by no means a cakewalk for Silva.  This should be a good fight.

Anderson Silva Looks Ready For UFC Return, KO'd His Sparring Partner

This video of Anderson Silva preparing for his return to the UFC shows Silva knocking out his sparring partner.  Silva is set to return January 31 at UFC 183 against Nick Diaz.

If this video is any indication of how his training sessions have been, I'd say Silva looks focused.  A focused Silva is a dangerous Silva.  He's got one thing on his mind and that's another shot at Chris Weidman.  He'll have to prove worth of that opportunity and step one is UFC 183.

Anderson Silva Will Return to the Octagon in January 2015

Max Bretos broke the news on twitter and UFC president, Dana White, later confirmed that Anderson Silva is returning to the octagon.  Silva will face Nick Diaz, who is also making a return to the octagon coming out of retirement, at UFC 183 on January 31, 2015.

Check Out What Anderson Silva is Doing Now

Should we be surprised?  Not when it's Anderson Silva.  He's shown a remarkable ability to recover from his devastating broken leg.  Working out and walking without crutches way before anybody expected.  So to see him in the ring already shouldn't be that big of a shock.  But it's still very impressive and validates the fact that we haven't seen the last of Silva in the ring.

Check Out What Anderson Silva is Doing Now

Anderson Silva is no longer walking with crutches and hitting pads now with his hands.  Are you kidding me?  His doctors are amazed with his progress as they should be.  We've already seen Silva working out and grappling but this is just amazing.

Before I would have been surprised if he ever fought again, but after seeing this I have no doubt that we'll see him in the octagon again.

Look at What Anderson Silva is Doing

So if you thought Anderson Silva working out was impressive, especially considering he's only a couple months removed from snapping his leg like a twig.  You'll be very impressed to see he's already grappling.  Dude is a freak of nature.  There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that he's planning to return to the UFC.

Anderson Silva is Already Back in the Gym

Any doubts about Anderson Silva's intentions following his injury should now be gone.  He's going to train and he's going to fight.  Silva is already back in the gym doing what he can, including walking stairs without crutches and lifting weights.

Anderson Silva's Leg Looks Normal Again!

Remember when it was 2013, so long ago!  And this happened to Anderson Silva's leg.  Well it's 2014 and modern medicine was able to repair Silva's broken leg and it seems to be healing nicely.  All of the news since the injury is that Silva plans to fight again but time will tell if he's every able to do so and at the highest level.

The Huge UFC 168 Fight Card Didn't Disappoint

UFC 168 was very entertaining and lived up to it's hype.  The main event ended on a freak injury and probably ended Anderson Silva's career as he broke his leg severely.

People will always question how the fight ended but Chris Weidman controlled the first round and almost finished Silva.  Silva's eyes rolled back and he was dropped and hurt in round 1.

Fight fans are ready to watch some fights with a big night of fighting in the UFC.  UFC 168 starts tonight at 8pm with the prelims on Fox Sports 1 and the main events at 10pm on pay-per-view.

The pay-per-view features a couple of rematches with belts on the line as Chris Weidman defends his title against Anderson Silva and Ronda Rousey taking on Miesha Tate.

The Rousey versus Tate bout led to one of the hottest weigh ins in UFC history.
