The firing of Barry Bonds was announced Monday after one season as the Marlins hitting coach.  It turns out Don Mattingly is the reason he was fired.

Reports are the Marlins manager was prepared to walk if Bonds wasn't let go.

Donnie Baseball would not have stayed on as manager if Bonds returned -- one MLB coach told me.

It seemed like an odd pairing to begin with, so it's not all that surprising he wanted him gone.  Not to mention Barry's reputation as a dick when he was a player.

Sad news out of Miami.  Their 24 year old ace pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in Florida.

This is going to happen more and more as managers continue to baby pitchers.  This is fucking stupid.  Based on a magic pitch count of 100 (a made up finish line by the way) pitchers are getting pulled with no hitters.

Don Mattingly was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show earlier in the week and talked about his departure from Los Angeles.  Mattingly seems likely to be taking his talents to Miami, but couldn't really share much about a potential deal to manage the Marlins.

Mattingly was however open about the amount of money the Dodgers are wasting on players who no longer have the ability to start and the different challenges that face a team like the Marlins.

I love Mattingly and would love to see him back in pinstripes, so the fact that he might be the next manager of the Marlins kind of makes me sick.  I'm still going to hold out hope that once Girardi is gone the Yankees will do the right think and bring him back.

Did you hear that Yankees?  Don Mattingly is available.  It's tme to do the right thing and fire Joe Girardi.  The manager job was Donnie Baseball's the whole time.

Mattingly and the Dodgers have mutually decided to part ways.  The former Yankee spent five seasons in Los Angeles as the manager and won the last three NL West titles.

You hear that?  A manager who plays for and wins the division!  Man that would have been nice this season.

They did fall short in the postseason, but it's not entirely Mattingly's fault that the Dodgers failed to reach the Worl Series.  He did afterall have an "Ace" who pitches like a completely different picher in the postseason.

Let's get together and do what's right!  Bring Mattingly back to New York.

The tension is clearly high in game 5 between the Mets and Dodgers.  Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier was seen in the dugout ripping manager Don Mattingly.

Nobody seems to know what provoked the interaction, but it's usually not a good sign if a player is yelling at a manager during a playoff game.

The Mets beat the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw 3-1 in game 1 last night.  Because that's what Kershaw does, he loses in the postseason.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had a choice to make before the game, start Kershaw or Zach Greinke.  He went Kershaw despite his tendency to lose postseason games.

Not only does Kershaw lose in the postseason but Greinke had a better season this year and should have started.

Jacob DeGrom was lights out for the Mets making it a fairly easy win for the Mets.  That sense of calm carried into their post game interview where they messed with each other's chairs.

The Mets look really tough.

Who knows why Don Mattingly removed Clayton Kershaw after 5 innings and 80 something pitches.  But he did and Kershaw was not happy at all about it.

At the time Kershaw was removed from the game the Dodgers were losing 3-0.  They scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th and got Kershaw his 15th win of the season.

It worked out for him even though he was upset.

Don Mattingly has benched Yasiel Puig for game 4 with the Dodgers down two games to one.  Puig had struck out in seven at bats in a row, but broke out of that with a triple in the 6th inning yesterday later scoring the Dodgers only run, via True Blue LA:

"He's healthy," Mattingly said of Puig during his news conference on Tuesday. " We feel like this gives us the best chance to win today." 

Mattingly repeated that last sentence multiple times, sounding like a man trying to convince himself of the move.

Even with Puig's recent struggles how do you bench him with the season on the line and give no real reason for it?  You have to know this will be a distraction and seen as a reason why you lost, if the Dodgers end up losing.

The Dodgers seems to always be up to some sort of fun and games between innings.  This time it was Scott Van Slyke who had his shoe lit on fire, the ol hot foot.

Don Mattingly has to be the ultimate player's coach because he lets his team get away with a bunch of shenanigans.  And yes that last sentence was thrown in there so I could use the word shenanigans.
