Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker took a line drive to the front of his head.  The sound off of his head is pretty loud.  He appeared to be a dazed and had to have a towel placed on his head where the ball struck him, presumably to put pressure on a bleeding wound.

You hate to see this thing happen, but time and time again the pitchers are not in position to field after delivering a pitch.  Not that it will completely prevent this from happening, but it will give the pitcher a fighting chance.
