The move is the second by Marty Hurny since he was brought back in to fill the role of GM, via ESPN:
Panthers offensive tackle Michael Oher, who has been in the NFL concussion protocol since last September, was released Thursday after failing a physical.
It was the second move made by interim general manager Marty Hurney since being hired Wednesday. Earlier in the day, he gave right guard Trai Turner a four-year, $45 million extension with $20.45 million guaranteed.
In his criticism of the Gettleman firing, Oher also took shots at his teammates, saying, "Karma's a MF."
Following his release Oher tweeted, "The Brain is a scary thing. You have to be careful with it."

That tweet was met with a ton of support, including fellow concussion sufferer Dale Earnhardt Jr.
